The illness that has been dogging country legend George Jones for the past several weeks apparently is not going away. According to a statement on Jones’s website, the 80-year-old Country Music Hall of Famer was admitted back into a Nashville hospital yesterday to “undergo testing and evaluation for a lingering upper respiratory infection.”
The news was also noted on Jones’s Twitter feed.

Jones previously had to cancel shows in Minnesota and South Dakota due to the longer-than-expected recovery from his infection, for which he was first hospitalized back in March. He was planning to resume touring this week with a date at Loretta Lynn‘s Ranch in Hurricane Mills, Tennessee, but that and other dates in the coming weeks will also need to be rescheduled.
A major force in country music for six decades and counting, Jones is known for such enduring classics as “He Stopped Loving Her Today,” “White Lightning,” “The Window Up Above,” and “The Grand Tour.”
