Big party in Nashville last night to celebrate George Strait’s 32 year career! The event was held on the anniversary of George’s first number-one single, “Fool Hearted Memory,” which topped the Billboard Hot Country Singles chart on August 28th, 1982.

Strait’s own hero, Merle Haggard, videotaped a message: “I’ve watched you grow over the years. You’ve taken country music to another level. Everybody’s proud of you, including me.”

George took the stage to sing 3 songs with his legendary Ace in the Hole Band and shared with everyone what he was feeling: “This means a lot to me and my family… You know, in 1981 when I signed with MCA Records, it just seems like yesterday, I think I’ve been with MCA longer than most of the people in this room have… Again, I just want to thank everybody. This is a very special night for me. I see a lot of friends out there, friends that I’ve gotten to know over the years…and I’m looking forward to a whole lot more.”

It was announced last night that George renewed his record contract to record five new albums for MCA.
