Gone are the days of using Snapchat to send a 10 sec video or picture that disappears.
Snapchat just announced that it is going against all of its original beliefs and creating a feature called Memories.
Memories is a “personal collection of your favorite moments that lives below the Camera screen.”
“You can use Memories to create new Stories from Snaps you’ve taken, or even combine different Stories into a longer narrative,” the company wrote in a blog post. You can now upload old Snaps to your latest Story, though they will appear with a frame around them to signify that the picture is old. Memories also allows you to put saved photos in a special “My Eyes Only” folder.
Don’t get me wrong, the idea behind it is very cool and will definitely catch on, but it kind of defeats the purpose of the actual app, which was originally to send quick pics to friends that will discarded quickly.
The new “Memories” feature does however prove that Snapchat is not a force to be reckoned with and FB/Twitter should watch out!
The new feature is rolling out this month and Snapchat will send you a message when it is available.
