Last night, as the screen version of the real-life “Miracle on the Hudson” premiered in New York City, I was invited to see Warner Brothers‘ Sully before it comes out in theatres everywhere on Friday. I’ve been a fan of movies for quite a while, from childhood to my days working at the CineVegas Film Festival to now, and have appreciation for so many aspects- from acting to writing to cinematography! Boy, I sure wish these guys were still around to help my analysis…
On January 15th, 2009, an airline pilot saved 155 people aboard US Airways flight #1549. You probably know the story, but did you know that Chesley Sullenberger faced a firestorm of criticism after his efforts? This well put together biopic by Clint Eastwood not only recounts the heroics, but also takes a turn to show the mental & other challenges around events behind the news coverage. When you see it, take special note of 2 things: A well written line about planes & New York delivered in a hotel room towards the end of the movie & Aaron Eckhart‘s performance as co-pilot Jeffrey Skiles…
As this is a great story we’ve heard before, but definitely a can’t miss- especially remembering the 15th anniversary of 9/11 this weekend, I give Sully:
🎬 🎬 🎬 🎬 out of 5 clapper boards!
And in the spirit of great Tom Hanks movies, I just have to share this Facebook meme from last night:
Quick reviews of other movies I’ve seen recently:
Hell or High Water This Chris Pine & Ben Foster Texas bank-robber movie has it all…even comedy!

Suicide Squad Fun, especially Jared Leto’s Joker but needs a smoother plot line. Too much Will Smith & not enough Margot Robbie or Killer Croc.

Jason Bourne And it looks like this isn’t going to be the last one. 😦
