…and just like that, our hearts are sad.
While most of the news from the set of Netflix’s revival of Gilmore Girls has been pure excitement, there is one very sad truth: there will be a major character not returning to the reboot.
Edward Herrmann, who played Richard Gilmore, passed away in December 2014, which is still very fresh in the hearts of his Gilmore Girls cast mates.
“There’s a line [in the script] about how time has passed and how that feels…and hanging over all of it is the absence of Ed…which, obviously the [revival] addresses,” Lauren Graham said to TVLine. “But that’s where we’re all starting from, and it feels so real. It’s hard to be here without him.”
The show will begin after his death, and will play a major role in the four-part reboot, especially for Emily Gilmore’s character.
“What does the death of a husband mean to a woman who had a life very specific to her all these years,” Amy Sherman-Palladino said on the impact Richard’s death will have on Emily during the reboot. “Where does she go from here?”
Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life returns November 25th on Netflix.
