Stories From the Weekend: Another Busy 48 Hours

Ok, I survived my 1st summer in Chicagoland…WAIT, we technically have over two days left until Fall?

Regardless, if I showed you my Star Wars paper calendar on my wall at home, your head would spin! Y’all folks in the Upper Midwest CRAM so much into the warm months- it’s incredible. And this weekend was no different with at least 2 huge events…

Since I had never been to Chicagoland Speedway before, Friday night I ventured down to Joliet in the Southwest burbs for the NASCAR truck series race so I could get ready for Sunday! A decent crowd was on hand, as well as plenty of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles decorations including this cool mural…

I’m generally a night owl, but was in bed rather early Friday so I could hit the airwaves 10AM on Saturday morning until late afternoon. Then after delivering concert tickets for some deserving CFD firefighters, I picked up a longtime US*99 listener & headed to Hollywood Casino Amphitheatre in Tinley Park. We made it just in time for Cole Swindell, who was a great opener for Florida Georgia Line. This was my 1st time ever seeing Tyler & BK, crossing off a 2016 New Years Resolution! They covered radio hits from all of their own to the Backstreet Boys to House of Pain, but the loudest applause came from the crowd after their ballad “H.O.L.Y.” (1st picture above)

I briefly hit up the race crowd at Skooter’s Roadhouse Saturday night & stayed with my buddy Tony at his place near Streamwood. Then was finally Sprint Cup Race Day for #TheChase

Some folks think watching cars go left around an oval for 3 hours is boring (and most times I would agree too), but NASCAR Sunday is much more than the actual race itself. One of the best traditions at our track is when fans get to show up early & write well-wishes to their favorite drivers on the finish line!

After former pit crewman Chase Rice performed a 45 minute set in the track infield the day before his birthday, I finally met up with Joe Shane Jr. & his daughter Mykala. Just like US*99 afternoon traffic girl Misty Callahan, they are HUGE Kasey Kahne fans! He did beat my driver Kyle Busch by ONE spot in the Top 10 on Sunday…

So, what’s going on this next weekend? I know I’ll be at Soldier Field for the St. Jude’s Walk to End Childhood Cancer…you gonna join us?
