Universal Pictures and Amblin Entertainment have canceled this weekend’s premiere of the movie A Dog’s Purpose amid controversy over the recently surfaced video. It showed a trainer apparently forcing a German shepherd into rushing waters on set. You can read all about it here.
A statement issued Thursday said it was because Amblin, which produced the film, is reviewing the video and it was in the best interest of the movie to cancel this weekend’s premiere.
The director and voice actor said on social media the video was disturbing, and PETA has called for a boycott of the film.
A Dog’s Purpose is slated to hit theaters Jan. 27
